How Long is Recovery from a Mommy Makeover?
A ‘Mommy Makeover’ is a combination of cosmetic procedures designed to improve your appearance after pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing. Having multiple procedures at once allows a patient to improve many areas with only one recovery period. Restore your pre-baby shape and get a boost to your confidence with a mommy makeover performed by board-certified Dr. Bryan Correa.
*Individual results may vary
What Procedures are Included in a Mommy Makeover?
Almost any procedure that can make you feel more comfortable in your own skin as a new mother can be included. The most common procedures, however, are tummy tuck, liposuction, and breast enhancement. The recovery timeline may vary depending on the number and type of surgeries performed.
Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Pregnancy often leaves new moms with excess skin in their abdominal area. A tummy tuck focuses on removing extra skin and tightening the abdominal muscles, leaving the midsection flatter. You may notice an immediate change following your procedure, but optimal results are achieved within 6-9 months.
Liposuction
Women who have small pockets of fat in the tummy area benefit from having liposuction included in their mommy makeover. Liposuction is highly customizable and can remove excess deposits of fat in the hips, thighs, tummy, and other areas. Your results may take up to six months to be realized, but patients notice a slimmer profile immediately.
Breast Enhancement
Many women want to improve breast shape after pregnancy. A breast lift restores a firmer, perkier shape to sagging breasts by removing excess, stretched-out skin. You may notice an improvement immediately, but you’ll experience full results between 6 and 12 months.
In some cases, when your breasts have lost volume, a breast augmentation can be included to recover fullness in the breast. The goal of breast augmentation is to enhance your natural proportions. Optimal results following breast augmentation are visible within 2-9 months.

Recovery Timeline
Since mommy makeovers are customized, recovery times will vary. In most cases, patients can expect a timeline based on the most extensive procedure in the combination surgery – the tummy tuck. Liposuction areas may be tender or numb, and breasts will be sensitive for 1-3 weeks. Bruising and swelling will decrease over several weeks following surgery. Short term recovery in a postoperative recovery suite can last 1-3 days, with at-home recovery lasting up to several months.
Return to Work
If your job doesn’t involve straining or lifting, you may be able to return to work in as little as two weeks. You can expect to take up to a month to return to a physically strenuous work environment.
Strenuous Activities
You’re encouraged to keep moving after surgery to increase blood circulation and decrease the chances of clotting. Any lifting, even a 25-pound child, is restricted for 4-6 weeks. Normal exercise and strenuous activities should be avoided for six weeks or until approved by Dr. Correa.
What’s Full Recovery After a Mommy Makeover?
When performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Correa, a mommy makeover can provide long-lasting and rewarding results. Full recovery may take several months, but patients typically feel comfortable wearing a swimsuit within three months after surgery. Dr. Correa will review your recovery timetable for your specific procedure during your consultation.
After losing 50 pounds and turning 50, I wanted to lift some sagging areas and boost my morale. Dr. Correa lifted my arms and breasts, did a tummy tuck, breast implants and liposuction.
It’s a bit early in my recovering but I can already see results from the liposuction. I’m very happy with my breasts and my tummy tuck. My arms have been the most uncomfortable as far as healing goes, but I’m being patient and I know the outcome will be great.
