What Types of Breast Implants Are Best?
There are several different types of breast implants, each which has advantages and disadvantages. This is why a consultation with a fully trained plastic surgeon is necessary, as identifying the appropriate implant to reach your individual goals requires an astute listener as well as experience and artistic judgment to determine which implant will best accomplish your goals.
The most common implants are:
Saline implants
- Saline implants are composed of a sterile saline solution. If the implant shell ruptures, saline solution is absorbed by the body and naturally expelled.
Silicone implants
- These feel more like natural breast tissue and should there be a rupture or leak of the shell, the silicone stays in place and will not collapse. Silicone implants may require periodic checkups to ensure the implant hasn’t ruptured.

“Gummy bear” implants
- Form stable (gummy bear) implants are thicker than silicone. The gel in these implants will remain in place in the event of a rupture and is firmer than traditional implants. Gummy bear implants are more projected at the bottom and tapered at the top. If a gummy bear implant rotates, it may require a surgical procedure to correct.
Fat transfer augmentation
- This procedure removes fat from another area of the patient’s body by liposuction and transfers it to the breast. This is commonly done in breast reconstruction after a mastectomy.
“Breast augmentation provides a unique opportunity for the patient to choose almost every aspect of their surgery – from the incision location to the type and size of implant, it’s as close as you can get to re-designing your own body to your desires.” – Dr. Correa
Dr Correa and his staff were extremely welcoming and helpful throughout my process with them. They made everything a breeze for me and the price for my procedures in comparison to his competitors only helped with my decision.
